24 August 2013My father has earning from salary and pension. After HRA and 80C deduction, he dont have any tax liability. But he has missed filing income tax by Aug 5. So, can you please tell me , if he can file the returns now without any penalty in normal procedure?

Malay,
If you have missed the due date,no problem.Just file your return now.IT Deptt gives an option to file IT Return to the last date of ending AY i.e.in your case you can file the return till March,13 with only 1% interest on tax (If any).Since your father has no tax liability he can still file the return without worry.

As you dont have any tax liability, you can always file a bealted return of income tax before 31st MAr 2015

Since your father has no tax liability to pay, he can file his Income Tax return for the financial year 2012-13 anytime till 31st March, 2015.
To avoid any chance of a penalty, do file the income tax return till 31st March, 2014.
