Hello Sir, Is it  normal to have jurisdictional assessing officer in another state. Acc, to "My Profile" section of E-filling website of  My Father from Punjab's Assessing Officer is in some city of Rajasthan.

We do not know from how long it is like that. Do we need to get it changed or this is normal and no need to do anything about it.

Thanks

It is very much common. When an assessee apply for PAN first time, the ITO jurisdiction gets selected as per his/her permanent address at that particular time. Afterwards very few try to change it, whenever they change their address, because of difficulties in follow-ups with department.

Problem occurs only when any scrutiny opens up and/or any personal visits to the ward office.

As and when the transfer becomes easy with online proceedings, its advisable to get the file transferred to present location.

Hello Sir, My father has never lived in Rajasthan and even heard the city name for the First time . He has always been a resident of punjab. His PAN card is more than 30 years old

That hardly matters now; as who filled his form, why he entered that city etc.......... Now try to rectify as and when you get chance.
