Is it necessary to verify orginal return incase a revised return is filed.

Orginal return uploaded

Revised return- verified through Evc/Letter send to CPC

Hi Jyothi,

Return of Income is said to be furnished only in following manner as per Rule 12(3) of the Income Tax Rules, 1962.

1. Furnishing the return in a paper form.

2. Furnishing the return electronically under digital signature.

3. Transmitting the data in the ROI electronically and thereafter submitting the verification of the ROI in ITR - V.

4. Furnishing a bar coded ROI in paper form.

If original return is defective, revised return is invalid.

Please send the original and revised return duly verified by the assessee to the CPC for processing.

Need not verify original return. Only the revised return should be verified. You can also E-verifythro ur bank account or E-verify thro AADhar card.

Both returns should be verified. Without verification of original return revision of return could not be done.

But status of Revised return as per Incometaxindiaefiling is ITR processed for Revised return & status of orginal return is return uploaded.

If we click on "list of forms to be verified - Orginal return to be verified".

Since Evc is done only for revised return.

Jyothis,

See, a revised return substitutes the original return, in other words, revised return becomes the original return. Now you have to verify the revised return only. No need to verify the original return, if you have revised the original return within the time specified in the act.
