Is Attendence record mendatory

An employer  doesn't  wish to  maintains attendence records

for their employees, he says nature of job requires them mostly

on site work and they are unable to attende office for recording their presence.

Is any law/legislation makes attendence mark by employee himself.

How cost is said to accrue if record of service rendered not available ?
