IPCC Students - Attention - Things about articleship

Congrats First for those who cleard IPCC. After enjoying the success for the past few days. Now is the time for Articeship for you. These are the things I learnt from my experience and from that of my seniors. Hope it is of help to you all

  1. Get to know from your seniors / teachers under whom you learnt for IPCC and prepare a list of firms in your area. For this you can also visit the Institute as it gives the list of MEMBERS in an area.
  2. From that list, try to select a medium firm preferably. If you ambitions regarding the bigger firms, there is a lot you need to sacrifice (But it will be a good experience). However, my advice is a medium firm.
  3. Don't get into any firm which catagorises into "Audit" / "Tax". Try to get into a firm which gives you overall exposure. There is enough time available for you to Specialise in a field. That is after clearing CA, you can join a reputed Tax firm for a year or two and specialise. What you now require a wholesome training.
  4. Never get tempted by the Stipend that is being paid. You are there to learn. Your ambition should become a CA and not a "Glorified / Greatest Articled Assisstant in the World". Most people failed in CA Final / CA PCC because they thought they were working and the entire office was running on there head.
  5. This is because you will get addicted to the respect you get. You might be hardly 20, but a person of your father's age will stand before you and say "Sir" / "Madam", will take lunch orders from you and will treat as the most important person in the world.
  6. Also, enquire whether the firm has Outstation Audits and if so at what frequency. The Outstation Audit is much more fruitful than a Local Audit because, you will have no one to help you and hence you will be on your own. You will be given an advance which you need to manage with and be in a place which is totally alien to you. It will develop you as a person.
  7. But at the same time, enquire whether, it will possible to attend for classes
  8. Duration of Exam leave
  9. Whether they will not post you on Outstation audits in last six months before the Exams.
  10. HOw often it is required to sit late and whether if sat late, will there be any benefit like extra off given apart from your exam leave.
  11. You must collect this info from your seniors and from the firm itself. Certain questions are not to be asked to the firm.
  12. Best thing is to go to Onile Community like Orkut, facebook search for CA students and your locality. Get to now from them, how these done.
  13. Evaluate and prepare a Resume with your name, address, qualification, a Certified Copy of all your mark sheets, any conduct certificate given by your school college. Quote your achivements in extra curriicular activities and attach those certificate's copy.
  14. I think I have covered most things. There are other things which are not MATERIAL. Get used there words.

Good Luck
