Can any one help me in solving my problem ? The question is .... I got a problem in solving for 16 for assessment year 2012-13.. The Assessee has paid 2 nos of medical insurance premium such as : (1) Medical Insurance Parents..for Rs. 44421/- & (2) Medical Insurance with a senior citizen for Rs. 47146/- . Now he claims Rs. 15000/- against the 1st and Rs.20000/- against the 2nd premium. so is it possible to afford him a total of Rs.35000/- as deduction U/s 80D. Plese reply...
Regards..
Smrutiranjan.

The maximum deduction available u/s 80D is Rs 30000 only. Not 35000/-.
The parents maybe senior citizens but the assessee will get deduction only as a resident indivisual. Hence maximum 30000/-

Dear Farzan..yes after recent amendment the limit of deduction u/s 80D is incresed to Rs 20000 for senior citizens and hence claimable.
Thus maximum deduction in this case shall be Rs 35000/- u/s 80D. I stand corrected.
Thank You
