i am able to track my refund at income tax site

i did a e filing of my family member

when i checked my account and refund status it is not taking the acknowlegment number

it just allow the few leeter to wrote while my acknowlegment number is so big

what to do

at just tell me usually in what time period we get our refund from IT department

Generally the Refunds are made within 3 months. From my experience in Income Tax Filing it usually happens in 6 months. Although i must admit there have been certain scenarios wherein the Tax payer has waited for nearly 3 years for the same. But I suppose those times have passed. Writing a letter may not exactly solve the problem. Dont worry it should come within a year or so.

Answer - I can suggest you to get the PANs of ur family members authorised for viewing tax credit for this u can visit https://www.tin-nsdl.com/panregistration.asp for more details.

2nd thing u can see the tax refund status at https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html where u just hav 2 put the PAN and choose the A.Y.

There is no system practically in operation through net to track your refund of income tax . You have to go to income tax department where you have filed your return and ask from the concern person . You are still on the Mercy of clerk of income tax department. If he is satisfied and happy he will give you a refund. There are still several cases where the assessee have not received the refund from last 5 years.

The process of refund takes minimum 3 months. If you have opted for credit of refund into the Bank account, you need to check after 3 months from the filing of return of income.

Even after considerable time if you do not get the refund, write a letter to the concerned Income Tax officer, enclosing along with the letter, original TDS certificates/self assessment tax challan, seeking refund.

From the date of acknowledgement of the letter, it may further take some time for granting refund.

Dear All,

To get refund the Income Tax Rules 1962 has prescribed form no 30 by which you are making request to issue Refund of Tax.

Relevant extract from IT rule is as under

Refund claim.

41. (1) A claim for refund under Chapter XIX shall be made in Form No. 30. (also attached)

(2) The claim under sub-rule (1) shall be accompanied by a return in the form prescribed under section 139 unless the claimant has already made such a return to the [Assessing Officer].

(3) Where any part of the total income of a person making a claim for refund of tax consists of dividends or any other income from which tax has been deducted under the provisions of sections 192 to 194 [, section 194A and section 195], the claim shall be accompanied by the certificates prescribed under section 203.

(4) The claim under sub-rule (1) may be presented by the claimant in person or through a duly authorised agent or may be sent by post.

It is really a sad state of affairs.....I got a message that "No refund status available". There has to be a better way to handle tax refunds in our country. I hope efforts are being taken in this direction.
