Sub: How to reply to income tax notice for tax under 234b, 234c.

Greetings

I am a salaried employee and I changed job in the financial year. I have recently received notice for payment of interest under 234B, 234C as I paid a part of IT at the time of filing returns.

I am ready to pay the amount by filling the challan attached to the notice and pay in SBI.

Now my question is what I have to do after paying the tax in SBI.

* Do I need to send a letter to income tax office (kindly let me know whom should I send, I stay in Bangalore)?

* What should be the contents of the letter?

* Any other documents I need to attach?

This is the first time I am replying to such notice, need your help please

SALAM,

TAX PAYMENT IS IMPORTANT. PAY THE TAXES ..INTEREST ETC.

TAKE XEROX COPY OF CHALLAN.

WRITE A LETTER (IF YOU DESIRE) ADDRESSING TO THE CONCERNED AUTHORITY WHO HAS SENT YOU THE DEMAND NOTICE. PLEAQSE MENTION REF. NO. ASSESSEE'S NAME, ASSESSMENT YEAR AND PAN.

AUR BAAD SALAM KE ...

Write as under...

The demand raised by you vide Notice No......................................./ ...... has duly been paid by me on 17.01.2012 and xerox copy of challan is attached herewith.

Shukriya ada karna chaho to kar ke ... letter post kar do. Please keep one copy of the letter with you for your record.

If you do not want to write letter... do not write. Check Form No 26AS. You will get credit for the payment within 2-3 or maximum 4 days.

Shukriya Paras Bhai for your quick reply, is indeed really useful. I will do it now.

I think i can pay the tax online instead of going to SBI and take a printout of acknowledgement and post the same to IT department.

May I know what is the challan number i should select?
