Have you given up?

Earlier I had posted a blog on Personal Branding (see /blog/two-dimensions-of-personal-branding--17.asp or https://krunal-raichura.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html), many of you had read it and liked it. I thank everybody for their comments.

Those who havent read it, can do so through the links above.

In continuation to the blog, I would like to share with all of you an observation, I might be wrong, but I have seen this time and again.

Today, I can see that most of the people have given up on this, I mean, one is not able to see himself anywhere without a degree, without a job in an MNC, without a luxury car, a beautiful and rich wife/husband etc...

Many feel that there is not identity without the above mentioned things i.e. the identity of a person is made by these things only.

I want to say that a person has a great identity even without all this, it has more to do with how you see yourself than how people around you see you. One should be able to see his identity very well in this world even without all these materialistc things. That would make you distinct from all others.

One of the qualities of greatness, I believe, is that it is not comparable. It is something that applies not only in corporate world but also in general. We dont have anyone who can be compared to Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa or our freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and many others. Even in corporate world there are great leaders, and you wont find anyone who can be compared to them. This greatness in a way hasn't come necessarily from their association with educational institutes, or their husbands/wife, or their cars or just desingations....thats why its great and not comparable.

Many unfortunate people who never had access to the things which all of us have, made it big, infact the biggest. And I think thats mainly because they could see themselves in this world without a rich family, without a degree, without any of these things, and they could believe they can make it big!

My Dear Krunal,

Thanks for such a great thoughts !

Now-a-days; what a "qualified" common person spends in a month towards his/her luxuries, from that money at least 10 poor families can easily run their total monthly household expenditure.

So we see that the social responsibilities part has disappeared in the public attitude !

It is really very unfortunate that in professional examinations we have to learn about ethics !  It is wonderful to note that such qualified students do not follow ethics in their practical life !

I have observed that some persons are ready to spend 20 lacs of rupees for an operation of a family member despite leaving all the hopes - no guarantee by so-called learned and experienced doctors, but these persons are not ready to prepare themselves for real charity - at least at that time also.

From this amount of Rs.20 Lacs; at least 2 hospitals can be construted in villages where no medical facilities are available.

Due to this lacking; the cost of medical expenditure and schooling has increased tremendously. We see that 500 persons are ready to give donations to a well known convent school through blank cheques offer of Rs.1.00-1.50 lacs per child from which they can form a great school if they have some sense.  This happens when no guarantee of career is there ! How foolish !

Some persons spend 50 lacs of rupees towards marriage of their daughters. Upto Rs.400-500 a dish is offered in a marriage party by a person who himself is patient of diabities or heart or of both (unable to take a piece of sweet or a butter roti).  Still their is not guarantee that their daughters will remain happy. In some cases; even their daughters have no liberty to spend Rs.2000/- at her own.

These type of "extra-ordinary persons" you will find all the time.

People are very eager  to see Amitabh Bachhacan who is not a role model (He is not a sole example, so many examples you can  find.  These types of persons are known as big but really not great). He is an extraordinary actor but not an extraordinary model to follow. Many times he has faced problems just for taking unlawful possession of land etc. Regarding his personal affairs, I don't wish to comment.

At another side; I have observed some persons who are happy with their joint family culture. They need not go to anywhere i.e. parties, hotels etc.  Everyday they enjoy party at their home. Can anyone believe on my words ?

No need to be a Gandhi. Present circumstances are altogether different than the situations prevalent at his time.

Then what to do? Ask yourself really what you want?  It is true that people will not see you successful until you earn sufficient money.

In my opinion; earn money to serve the society. Spend some time also for the cause of society.

A respect which you receive from the society by a donation of Rs.25,000/-, is impossible to imagine when you spend Rs.2.50 lacs for yourself. So at one side whole society is there and at the second side you are.

Don't forget that you are known as great when society looks as such for you. So society thinks that you are great whereas you are actually not.

I ask - are you great when you donate such a small amount ? Ask yourself again and again. The right answer you can give only.

I quote here Alexander -

"I don't believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and make them right. Believe in youself because you are the best."

It is enough for us to do something in right manner.

Nobody has done something to be a great. If one does for this; he is not a great.

I cannot forget two living legends in India -

1. Dr Abdul Kalam

             &

2. Dr. Manmohan Singh

I want to say something about them. They are already well known about their integrity and dedication.  They don't have that much money; but  our nation touched heights in all sectors when one of them was the President and second one was our Prime Minster.

When Abdul Kalam was elected as President; in a TV interview he told :

"I don't know how my family can see this incident because at home I don't have a TV."

Before electing as a President of India, he was supposed to give one lecture at Ahmedabad in front of noted scientists.

All will surprised to know that NO SEAT WAS MADE AVAILABLE TO HIM. He realized the situation and sat on the stairs without making any complaint and delivered his lecture !

(.....I have come here to deliver the lecture and not to sit on a good chair......).

THEY ARE GREAT. THEY NEVER TRIED TO BE GREAT BECAUSE THEY ARE GREAT.

But still it is a hard fact that very few persons will be ready / wish to be like them.

mind blowing article.............thanx Karunal and Surendra sir

Dear Surendraji,

Thank you for posting.

It is indeed true that one cant do something to be great.

Everyone is great in his/her own way. It is true that nobody has done something to be great and thats why the way people look at Mahatma Gandhi and say Swami Vivekananda is quite different from how they look at others who are trying to imitate many of those things. This relates well to your point about Bachan (and also distinction between big and great).

In my comments, this time, I havent left much room for how people think about you. Society makes many mistakes in judging people. It is difficult for society to understand that difference of "big" and "great" because what we see and hear is not true or in true form most of the times. Truth is manipulated well either by the one who conveys it or by the mind of the person who receives it.

Even Alexander's quote rightly stresses the need to see yourself as best because you are best. This I hope is an unqualified opinion, so the key takeaway is to believe in yourself, believe you are the best even if you dont have a degree, rich family, high designation in MNC etc...because that doesnt create the true identity of a person.

I am deeply impressed with your views.

I have not seen any person who has such thoughts in the young age of 21-22.

God bless you to be successful in all the fields whichever you choose.

Thank You Sir. Its an honour for me to read it.

Krunal is right. Beautiful thoughts at a tender age of 22. Keep it up.

Dear Krunal,

I definitely agree with what you say. I believe that the world has become very materialistic nowadays that the personal identity of a person as a human being is getting overshadowed with all these means.

Interesting article indeed.

I feel, to be great in ones own eyes, the quest for learning should never die. It gives you immense confidence and a true perspective to life where ultimately you realise the importance of being right in all endeavors. Materialistic pleasures and possessions do not matter much to people who possess knowledge.

The common factor you find in all these greats (not famous), that you mentioned, is that they all are extremely knowledgeable and are deeply concerned about the future of this beautiful society. Hence they are not selfish. Lesser mortals always confuse famous with greats.

Regarding our contribution to society, I think individual contributions may give immense satisfaction but will not help in any manner in changing the society/system at large. Given the limitations that we have, I think the solution lies in educating the youth about the need for better politics. More discourse will lead to more responsibile actions from the policy makers. There is no other alternative.

Dear all,

I have been reading your views on the topic I agree to most of the points put forth by our learned members but have serious reservations on some of the views given by Surendraji saying that people are ready to spend 20 lacs for treatment of family member even if there is no gaurantee  given by so called experienced  doctors  ..

I want to know is there is  any one in this Forum who will not spent money on the treatment of his family member just because thery is very remote possiblity of his survival ..?. What does one  mean Gaurantee  is this some kind of product for which one needs gaurantee ... ? when everyone knows that life and death are  in hands of GOD. Medicine profession is the noblest profession and we should not be insulting it... Ask the patient what feelings he has towards the doctor who has saved his life. at that point of time he is considered only  next to God . In times of crisis we want to save the life of our dear ones and not to calculate the cost of expenses and do the cost benefit analysis . whether the operation will be successful... or not...? On the contrary one should be proud of the person who is leaving no stone unturned in treating his family members . I think so some people are taking there profession too seriously ....

Respect the doctors because they give us new life....

Definitely these are the great thoughts by the great personalities !! When i say personalities what does it mean ?? Are not we personality !! then what we are ?? Few of us only can realize about their ownself i.e. who they are ?, where they stand in the bigger 7 greater world ?, how far they reached in fulfilling their dreams? Not everyone has defined goals and those who have it are always lucky in my opinion.

"If you are not certain of yourself then how can you be certain of something or someone else" (My thought). Nicely writtenby someone that "Be a player & not a spectator" Do something that world will notice you. I personlly feel that every person is born to do something. Now you will say that many of us are sitting idle & doing nothing !! No, in my opinion they are doing something but what matters is that whether they are doing something prodcutive or better then others or at least different from what others are doing.

Everyone breaths so nothing in your hand to get breath , right ?? its automated !! but dont forget that it (breath) is there when there is enough inputs to our body. I mean to say that if you need any output then yu have to do something. If you need better output do your best so that atleast you can get away with better output if not best.

Further a person when meets you identify like "Hi, i am rakesh & i am CA..... etc etc " It feels great to add one or more qualfications to your identification , Right ?? Yes, of course !! Now think for a sec... if someone whom you never meet or know, come to you & introduce himself & praise you though you are doubting how he came to know about yourself! You will feel top of the world that someone from the outer world praised him. Why it happend because yu must have done something good for the society etc.

So there is reason behind everything & "There is output, if there is input" (My thought)

Krunal & CA SURENDRA has righly said in their own words that "personal branding is far important & we have responsibilities to the society"

Thanks to krunal, CA Surendra & others for their valuable input here :)

"KEEP THE FLAME, NEVER BLAME" ( My thought )

:) Cheers the helping Hand :) CA Prakash Somani
