Filed returns with itr 2a instead of itr 1 for ay 2015-16

Hello,
I have income from only my salary and do not have any agricultural income or lottery/horse racing income etc. I own only one house property which is self occupied. So ideally I should file my returns using the ITR 1 form. But I filed my IT Returns for the AY 2015-16 using the ITR 2A instead of ITR 1 form. Please let me know if this is allowed, or should I file a revised return again?

As per the descripttion given on Income Tax website (https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in), following people can not use the ITR 2A form.

"This ITR 2A Return Form should NOT be used by an individual or a Hindu Undivided Family whose total income for the assessment year 2015-16 includes,-

(a) Income from Capital Gains; or

(b) Income from Business or Profession; or

(c) Any claim of relief/deduction under section  90, 90A or 91; or

(d)Any resident having any asset (including financial interest in any entity) located outside India or signing authority in any account located outside India; or

(e) Any resident having income from any source outside India."

I do not have income from any of the above mentioned sources, so I think technically I should be ok and the returns will not be rejected. But just to confirm, I am posting this question here. Should I file a revised return with ITR 1 form again ?

I raised a query on the income tax website, but their response does not say whether my return was incorrect or whether I should file a revised return. So it is of no help frown

Thanks,

Swapnil smiley
