We are STOCK BROKER Service Provider, we are claiming the Courier Service Input Credit regularly...
But the department says not eligible for Input Credit on Courier Service ... further says that the documents which we are sending thru courier, is only the information that we forwarding to the client, hence it is not related to business...
Please suggest on the above issue...

The Courier Service provider must be providing you with the proper Tax Invoice stating the Amount of service tax seprately collecting from you. Than you can claim the service tax paid on the courier services.
Regarding the defination of the business purpose exepnse, It includes any expenditure incurred directly or ancilliary to the business. So passing information regarding the business contracts must be a business purpose expense.
