Can any one help me in solving my problem ? The question is .... I got a problem in solving for 16 for assessment year 2012-13..  The Assessee has paid 2 nos of medical insurance premium such as : (1) Medical Insurance Parents..for  Rs. 44421/- & (2) Medical Insurance with a senior citizen for Rs. 47146/- . Now he claims Rs. 15000/- against the 1st and Rs.20000/- against the 2nd premium. so is it possible to afford him a total of Rs.35000/- as deduction U/s 80D. Plese reply...

Regards..

The maximum deduction available u/s 80D is Rs 30000 only. Not 35000/-.

The parents maybe senior citizens but the assessee will get deduction only as a resident indivisual. Hence maximum 30000/-

U/s 80D -Medical Insurance Premia, for a Sr. Citizen MAXIMUM of  20,000 can be claimed as deduction.

Agree with mr.prateek ....

PRATEEK JI is the amount of 30,000 allowed after recent amendment.

Please clarify. Because I read it to be max of 20000..

Assesse can claim only 30000/- u/s 80D.

yes....as per recent amendments.... for senior citizen the limit is20,000.....it is allowable rs. 35,000 under section 80 D....

YES, Mr.   Smrutiranjan ,  YOU CAN TAKE DEDUCTION U/S 80 D OF RS. 35000/-THROUGH REVISE RETURN.

Yes, u can claim total of Rs. 35000/- as deduction u/s 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961

Dear Farzan..yes after recent amendment the limit of deduction u/s 80D is incresed to Rs 20000 for senior citizens and hence claimable.

Thus maximum deduction in this case shall be Rs 35000/- u/s 80D. I stand corrected.

Thank You

Dear All,

According to above, The assessee is eligible to get 35000/- deduction U/s 80D

Regards

TRILOCHAN

Yes you can claim Rs 35000/- u/s 80D.  for Senior Citizen Rs 20,000.00 & Rs.  Normanl Rs. 15000.00

Thanks

Ramanuj

Thank You all........... for such huge respond...... But still there is a little bit  confusion........Actually there might be a little bit mistake in presenting the question...... As per my knowledge is concerned........ U/S 80D assessee can claim a maximum of 35000/- as   Maximum of Rs.15000/- for him or for spouse or for children and secondly a maximum of Rs. 20,000/- for his/ her parents if they are Sr. citizen. But here the question is The assessee has taken both the policy for his parents. 1st police in name of his mother who is below 55 years of age and the second policy in the name of his father who is a Sr. citizen. So can he claim Rs. 35,000/- in agreegate.

For senior citizens, it is always maximum Rs 20000/- in aggregate for both parents.

In your case, the deduction would be Rs. 20000.- only.

Thanks.............Prateek jee.
