Can a private limited company invest/trade in stock market?

Hi,

I've registered a Private Limited company one year back. Basically it's registered as an IT company. But it's idle ever since it's registered as one of my co-founder is out of town. So, I do not plan to do any operations under it. But I want to know whether it's possible to add more capital to it and invest/trade on the stock market? If I'm right then there are some restrictions for finance related companies. Can a private limited company invest or trade stocks, derivatives, currency, etc. if it's not registered as an NBFC?

Thanks!
