I think many students in the CA final stream are having similar dilemma.
Let me give here some of my observations from my experience.
Taking a break from studies and joining a job has some pros and cons.
Let me list down the cons first:
- Risk of deviating from the study mode - losing momentum.
- There are people waiting outside just to start saying - "you have only one more step to complete the course, why did you take such a decision of joining job at this point" and sensitive people may get hurt due to continuous questions like these
- We may never know how close we are to success. If your scores in exam indicate you are pretty close, then decisions like joining job may prove to be faulty at later pint of time. (however, this point may vary from person to person)
- Your peers who doesn’t decide to join job, might clear in the immediate opportunity, which may force one to think “had I not done that, I would have been….” etc.
Some pros;
- A change from a frustrated atmosphere
- Financial independence to some extent
- Finding new friends and get new ideas
- A boost to confidence if you are performing well at job
- If you plan to work in a firm or company where there are some CAs too, you may find the difference between a CA and a Non-CA (be it semi qualified also). It will certainly add some fire to one’s belly to clear the exam and grab opportunities ASAP.
Suggested steps you may consider;
- Make an analysis of your performance and scores. Try attending classes or video lectures for the areas wherever you are weak and strengthen yourselves subject-wise. Trust me - attending classes/ video lectures definitely helps more than what we imagine! Even youtube can help one in this if one is eager enough. We all have heard the saying “To achieve something new that you have never achieved, you have to do certain things you have never done”
- Try consulting with your trusted faculties and get a good roadmap for study in order to cover all the syllabus in a confident and foolproof manner.
- If there are no serious financial constraints, it is always good to strengthen your preparations, make your weak areas stronger and face the exams with all your guns loaded fully. As Edmund Hillary said once when he failed to conquer everest, "I am going to conquer you soon, because as a man I can work harder and make myself even better, but as a mountain, you cannot grow more" Success will be yours!
