Adjustment of interest for late pmt. of tax

Sir,

I made a payment of interest for late payment of service tax for the quarter Mar 2012, but later it was found that the payment made (interest) was excess of actual amount.

Now, is it possible to adjust the excess amount of interest?

And if possible, how?
