Any company or firm in India whose revenue exceeds the GST registration criteria is required to register under GST. Entities such as casual taxable persons, non-resident taxable persons, and others are also required to register under GST. Goods and Service Tax, is a value-added indirect tax levied on most goods and services sold for domestic consumption across India. The GST is paid by consumers, but it is remitted to the government by the business or individuals on selling the goods and services. It is a single indirect tax law for the entire country.

What is GST Registration Certificate?

The registration certificate of GST is a legal document that serves as proof of GST registration in India. It is issued to every taxpayer who has successfully registered under GST in Form GST REG-06. The certificate consists of the GSTIN along with other details of the business. The certificate is only available for download on the GST portal and not for the physical certificate that is issued by the government. GST certificate is issued to the taxpayer is required to be displayed at the taxpayer's primary place of business as well as any other additional places of business mentioned on Form GST REG-06. As per Rule 18 of the CGST Act, any violation in GST registration certificate can result in a fine of up to Rs. 25,000.

What are the Benefits of GST Registration?

Here are the benefits of GST registration:

  1. Recognition as a legal seller of products or services.
  2. When a business purchases goods or services, it pays GST on the input products or services. This input tax credit can be used to cover the GST due on the business's provision of goods or services, or both. The GST system in India allows seamless input credits for intrastate and interstate purchases of goods.
  3. Legal permission to collect tax from customers & credit the taxes paid on the goods or services provided to customers or beneficiaries.
  4. Eligibility for a variety of other perks and privileges provided by the GST laws.
 

The Process to Download GST Registration Certificate

To download your GST Registration Certificate from the GST Portal, then follow these steps:

  • Go to the GST portal and login to the portal using your valid credentials.
  • Then click on the "Service" tab.
  • Under the " Services" section there is "User Services", so click on it.

  • In the "User Services" area, navigate and click on "View/ Download Certificates".

  • A list of all the certificate issued by the GST tax authorities will be displayed on the screen in newest to oldest order.
  • To download the certificate, click on the download icon/button next to the desired certificate.

  • The GST Registration Certificate will be downloaded in PDF format.
 

Additional Points to keep in mind

  • A person without GST certificate cannot collect GST from customers or claim any ITC of GST paid by them.
  • Regular taxpayers of GST registration do not have an expiration date, so the registration will stay valid as long as it is not surrendered or terminated by the GST authorities.
  • The registration application must be submitted within 30 days of the date the individual becomes obliged to register or their turnover exceeds the Goods and Service Tax threshold.
  • The validity for a non-resident taxable person GST registration is limited to 90 days, but the taxpayer has the option of extending the validity of the GST certificate or renewing it when it expires.
