Arjuna (Fictional Character): Krishna, Yesterday it was “Mahaveer Jayanti”, today is “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti” and tomorrow is “Hanuman Jayanti.” What a great coincidence this is! Jayanti of three great souls have come one after the other.

Krishna (Fictional Character): Yes Arjuna, these three great souls have awakened the society by their deeds. They brought their ideal thoughts into practice and placed it in front of the people. In Today’s world if every person follows them then they will also be successful and can get fame in their life. The thoughts of these great souls can also be related with Tax Laws.

Arjuna: Krishna, Yesterday on 13th April there was “Mahaveer Jayanti” then what is the relation of Bhagwan Mahaveera’s thoughts with the tax laws?

Krishna: Arjuna, as said by Bhagwan Mahaveer “Truth alone is the essence in the world” which means one should always speak the truth and should be true in his deeds. The same ideology of truth is also practiced in Tax laws i.e. in Income Tax Act, Company’s Act, Service Tax, Sales Tax Act etc. All these laws give freedom to the taxpayers to file the returns and department also keep trust on the returns filed. If the department comes across any discrepancies in the return or finds any amount in the return suspicious then only it takes further action. Further department always provide an opportunity of being heard and there after gives its decision. Therefore all the taxpayers should file the returns under various Acts honestly. Taxpayers should not take undue advantage of the trust placed on the returns filed and maintain law and order peacefully.

Arjuna: Krishna, today it is 14th April, celebrated as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Jayanti, What is the significance of his ideology in Tax Laws in India?

Krishna:  Arjuna , Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar  is well known for his contributions in shaping the Constitution of India, as  the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constituent Assembly. The Constitution of India lays down the framework for defining all the laws. Dr. Ambedkar brought many reforms and developments in the society because he believed “Cultivation of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence”. Taking the Constitution drafted by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar the base, many amendments are being made for example last year the Companies Act 2013 replaced the Companies Act 1956. In near future, the Income Tax Act 1961 will be replaced by The Direct Tax Code and various tax laws would be replaced Goods and Service Tax Act. As Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar brought many developments and changes in the society, many reforms are taking place in the Tax Laws. All the taxpayers should accept these changes open heartedly and adapt these changes.

Arjuna: Krishna, tomorrow it is 15th April, “Hanuman Jayanti” then how can one relate Lord Hanuman’s thoughts and deeds  with the tax laws?

Krishna: Lord Hanuman was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama. He was a true disciple and keen follower of Lord Rama. Nowadays many taxpayers feel that following rules, regulation, tax laws is difficult task but indeed if one decides to follow them nothing is difficult or impossible. Lord Hanuman is said to have knowledge as deep as an ocean ”Gyan Gun Sagar” as said in Hanuman Chalisa. Lord Hanuman have made many impossible things possible, similarly Tax payers should not only acquire knowledge about tax but also understand the Tax Laws and follow them.

Arjuna: O great Krishna, All these Great Souls have gifted the society with their legacy of ideologies and teachings. How should one benefit from the gifted legacy and bring them in practice in their life?

Krishna: Arjuna, everyone celebrate the Jayanti’s of these great souls with full enthusiasm but along with the celebration it is important to understand their ideologies, teaching and implement the same in their  life. Lord “Mahaveera “gave message to the society of “Ahimsa Parmo Dharm” i.e Non violence is the Greatest Religion ,also from his deeds he taught the importance of sacrifice in life. Similarly Dr. Babasaheb Ambedakar drafted the Constitution of India and also worked for the upliftment of the unprivileged. He believed that “Life should be great rather than long”. Likewise Lord Hanuman is a perfect mixture Devotion, Strength and Responsibilities. The Government being within the limits drawn by the Constitution of India reduce the inconvenience and make the laws less complicated for the taxpayer to follow. At the end all the great souls have given the golden message of “Satyameva Jayate” and this golden mantra is applicable to all.
