The supply (import in your case) of software is deemed supply of service and has to be subjected to GST as service even if the software is imported on a medium. You pay the IGST and compensation cess at the applicable rate. The place of supply is the location of business place of the importer. Further supply of software will attract IGST/ CGST as per law depending on place of supply and as to whether the supply is inter-state or intra-state. you would be eligible to take credit of the tax paid if the software is intended to be used for business or in furtherance of business.
