Like GST and Income Tax, now Indian Railways is ready to implement mandatory e-Aadhaar authentication for booking Tatkal train tickets.
Objective
To enhance transparency, curb misuse, and streamline the ticketing process for last-minute bookings.
On Wednesday Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that “Bharatiya Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets. This will help genuine users get confirmed tickets during need.”

Key Points to Know
Launch Date: Expected to begin later this month. It may go live by the end of June 2025
Booking Start Time: Tatkal booking opens one day before travel, at 10 AM.
First 10 Minutes
- About 20% of all train tickets are booked under the Tatkal scheme.
- More than half of the Tatkal tickets are booked within the first 10 minutes.
New Scheme
“Account holders who link their accounts with the Aadhaar card will get priority during the first 10 minutes of Tatkal ticket sales,” the officials said.
It means:
- Now only Aadhaar-verified users will get the chance to book in 1st 10 minutes
- IRCTC agents are not allowed to book during this time.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that this step will help the genuine users to get their confirmed Tatkal tickets when they need them.
