ICAI joins Chartered Accountant Worldwide

THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF INDIA JOINS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS WORLDWIDE GAINING INTERNATIONAL BRAND RECOGNITION 

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been awarded Associate membership by Chartered Accountants Worldwide. ICAI is the fourth professional body to be admitted to the organisation since it was launched in February 2013. 

As an Associate member, ICAI joins a group of globally-recognised Chartered Accountancy bodies that are committed to enhancing the value of the brand and the profession. Its membership recognises the importance of the qualification in India and demonstrates ICAI’s commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.


 

Chartered Accountants have been a mark of excellence in the accountancy and business sectors for over 150 years. They are working in over 180 different countries across the world. By joining Chartered Accountants Worldwide, ICAI will boost its international presence and contribute to the further development of the profession. It will also open up access to events and networking opportunities for its members. 

ICAI is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for the regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India. During its 66 years of existence, ICAI has achieved recognition as a premier accounting body not only in the country but also globally, for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards.

ICAI is the fourth institute to join Chartered Accountants Worldwide as an Associate member, making a key contribution to the global expansion of the organisation. The rest of the Chartered Accountants Worldwide family are founder members; Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Chartered Accountants Ireland, ICAEW, ICAS, the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) who joined as an Associate in June 2015, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan who joined (also as an Associate member) in February 2016; and The Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants in March 2016.

Chartered Accountants Worldwide Associate membership is open to Chartered Accountancy bodies who:

  • refer to their members as Chartered Accountants and legitimately use the Chartered Accountant brand;
  • are a member of IFAC or an IFAC Recognised Regional Organisation (e.g., CAPA or PAFA);
  • require their members to commit to continuing professional development;
  • are committed to working together to promote the Chartered Accountancy brand; and
  • can demonstrate how they are improving the quality of the Chartered Accountancy qualification.

2.  ICAI
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for the regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India. It supports 256,000 membersand 875,000active students. The Institute functions under the administrative control of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. It has its headquarters in New Delhi and 5 Regional offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkata and New Delhi. It presently has 153 branches spread all over the country. In addition, it has also set up 27 chapters outside India and an overseas office in Dubai.
