Last updated: 04 July 2012

The Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW) is offering dynamic ambitious ICAI members the opportunity of adding value to their portfolio of technical skills by offering them one of 120 scholarships across Mumbai, Pune and Delhi.  Full training will be given in each city by ICAI and ICAEW’s only accredited partner in India, Get Through Guides (GTG).  Completion of the course and examinations will give ICAI members full membership of ICAEW, leading to many global opportunities and most importantly will accelerate the development of professional skills to help business succeed. In addition, the qualification will be recognized across the world, and places like the UK, Singapore and the UAE.

Applications are now open for individuals: ICAEW is now looking for nominations from individuals as 10-15 places in each city have been kept back for the brightest and best ICAI members.  They should ideally be under 35, have 1st time passes at final stage, show evidence of credible/relevant work experience and be ambitious self-starters and fast trackers. They need to supply an endorsement letter from their employer and obtain a Letter of good standing from ICAI.  They also need to answer 2 questions about why they want to do the programme which should bring out leadership qualities and good management skills. Applications close on 10th July.  Individuals will be informed by 15th July as to whether they have been successful.

Deepak Parekh of HDFC and Ishaat Hussein CFO Tata & sons, both alumni of ICAEW have become Anchor Partners and nominated multiple employees from each city.  Other Anchors include Mahindra & Mahindra, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Genpact and PWC.  GlaxoSmithkine, Siemens, Renishaw, Deloitte and KPMG are also supporting the sponsorship programme. Deepak Parekh, Chairman HDFC states, “I owe my solid foundation in the world of business and accounting to the training and guidance by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. This foundation has helped me build strong ethical businesses across India. The opportunity for ICAI members to gain skills through ICAEW should not be missed”.

It has long been known that ICAI is technically one of the most challenging chartered qualifications globally.  ICAEW’s strength is that in the final level, candidates are expected to sort through data, taking unstructured information and come up with recommendations for solving business problems.
