Accounts : New syllabus for ICWA
Posted on : 12 September 2007 by CMA [ Scorecard : 160]

Chennai, Sept 11: The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India will introduce a new syllabus from next year, to upgrade the educational skills of students, under which a student will be required to undergo the mandatory three year practical training.

All out efforts were also being made to upgrade the knowledge of members by introducing specialised post qualification courses such as valuation, financial services and system audit, president of the institute Chandra Wadhwa told reporters here.

Today, no agency was giving any bench marking for the cost of products in respect of any industry, he said. Hence, ICWAI proposed to develop bench marking of different products of Indian industry in terms of cost and productivity, he said, adding that the council had constituted a committee on bench marking, which would select the products to be benchmarked.

He said moves were afoot to set up an apex body on the lines of the Medical Council of India to set the standards of education in the field of accounting and for accreditation of educational institutions.

The demand for junior accountants would increase to about a million by the next ten years, he said.

The institute would organise a global summit on management accounting in Delhi from January 10 to 12, 2008. Professor Robert Kaplan, an expert in activity based costing , would address the gathering, he said. (Agencies)
