This is to announce the the Indian IT Calculator for the FY2008-09 (for salaried employees only) based on the taxation changes in the budget presented (with the hope that all the provisions proposed will be passed). Similar to the FY2007-08 calculator, this also has the provision for the tax computation from capital gains (stocks) at the new interest rate for short term gains and NSC accrued interest (NSC VIII issue) in addition to others including 80C and 80D.
This could help plan investments better for the coming FY in terms of tax savings. Please feel free to forward this mail to your friends also.

WRONG CALCULATIONS IN SOFTWARE ???
Dear Mr Rajan,
I downloaded the IT calculators for Fin Yr 2008-09 and 2009-10 from the given site and feel that, though the software is useful, it has serious defects. The results of calculation of Interest Accrd on NSC seem to be WRONG for both the years.
Fin Yr 07-08_v.30, only the rates on NSCs purchased between 1-3-01 and 28-2-02 appears to be correct and those purchased in other periods are wrong.
In Fin Yr 08-09_v.10, the results seemed wrong and could not make any sense to me.
Please note, I have checked ONLY THE "NSC Interest Accrued".
It seems you are an Engineer by qualification. Please get the rates of interest from any Practicing Tax Expert (ITP, Lawyer or CA).
You can also develop a KVP Interest Calculator also.
I'm sending this message to you for the needful correction in the software / formulae in the interest of yours and the public.

Hi Alka,
I am not sure I understood your question - could you please rephrase part 1 of your query?
Regarding part 2 of your question, no - I do not have any calculator for indirect taxation.
The Excel calculator (v2.3 runnng now) is for this FY is always available for free download at http://prrajan-tax.blogspot.com/2008/03/indian-income-tax-calculator-for-fy2008.html . Updates, as and when they need to be are also available at the same area.

I tried just now and the download happens just fine; the URL again - http://prrajan-tax.blogspot.com/2008/03/indian-income-tax-calculator-for-fy2008.html . Once there, you can download from mediafire by clicking on any of the images or the word "here" or "Click here to download.." - they all result n the same download page of mediafire.
