I have obtained a license for an IEC Code from DGFT as Merchant Exporter Type(Is this Merchant Type correct to import?). Now my question is how to start and refer the IEC when the package is send from my suppliers? I am really new into this importing business and use the IEC code....Initially, i startedimporting for my personal use in small quantity and since there are demands for the items, so I want to start a business in this.

Kindly suggest and any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Merchant exporter, is a exporter who purchase the goods from manufacturer and and after add their benefit export it through after searching the buyer.

for starting their business IEC holder must registered himeself in concerned regional export promotion council and is mandatory for taking the DGFT incentive .

A merchant is a businessperson who trades in commodities that were produced by others, in order to earn a profit.

Merchants can be one of two types:

  1. A wholesale merchant operates in the chain between producer and retail merchant. Some wholesale merchants only organize the movement of goods rather than move the goods themselves.
  2. A retail merchant or retailer, sells commodities to consumers (including businesses). A shop owner is a retail merchant.

A merchant class characterizes many pre-modern societies. Its status can range from high (the members even eventually achieving titles such as that of Merchant Prince or Nabob) to low, as in Chinese culture, owing to the presumed distastefulness of profiting from "mere" trade rather than from labor or the labor of others as in agriculture and craftsmanship.
