I have a joint home loan, until now we have been making payment through PDC on an alternate month basis. To save from having to draw cheque, we were thinking of opening a joint account and start an ECS from that towards the loan account.

Is there any requirement that we can avail tax benefits from home loan only if the EMIs are deducted from salary account? So if we start the ECS from the joint account will we still be able to avail the tax benefit?
